Pune: A 36-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a female police officer and obstructing an anti-drunk driving operation early Saturday morning in Pune.
The incident took place near Naidu Hospital Lane, close to RTO Chowk, at around 12:45 AM.
The accused, identified as Shashank Awadh Tripathi, a resident of Marvel Ganga, Wagholi, was driving his Seltos car recklessly while under the influence of alcohol when the police stopped him at a checkpoint.
Constable Deepmala Nair, who filed the complaint at Bund Garden Police Station, reported that the officers tried to administer a breathalyzer test to the suspect.
However, Tripathi resisted and became aggressive, pushing Constable Nair and other officers. He shouted threats, claiming he had influential contacts and could get the officers suspended.
The police have registered a case against him for obstructing the duties of a public servant and assaulting a police officer. Police Sub-Inspector Dheeraj Gupta is currently investigating the incident.
In a recent incident near Magarpatta Main Gate, a motorcycle rider was arrested after he verbally abused and physically assaulted police officers during a routine checkpoint.
The rider, identified as Madhukar Sardarsingh Theng, also known as Patil, resides at Kubera Vihar in front of Sanjivani Hospital, Hadapsar. The event took place at approximately 12:15 AM on October 10. Police Constable Gokul Bhosale filed a complaint at the Hadapsar Police Station following the incident.
