Pune: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a case against Police Sub-Inspector Manik Balasaheb Mandge and a private individual, Subhas Munjal, for demanding a bribe to prevent the arrest of a complainant's son and assist in an ongoing case.

Initially, a bribe of ₹25,000 was requested, which was later reduced to ₹10,000 following negotiations.

The incident stems from a case registered against the complainant’s son at the Shirur Police Station.

Sub-Inspector Mandge allegedly asked for a ₹25,000 bribe to avoid arresting the complainant's son and to provide assistance in the case.

The complainant reported the matter to the ACB, which subsequently conducted a verification process on October 9 at the Takali Haji Police Outpost.

During the verification, Mandge instructed the complainant to discuss the matter with Munjal, who demanded ₹10,000 on behalf of the officer.

Mandge confirmed the demand and agreed to accept the bribe. Although a trap operation could not be conducted, the confirmed bribe demand led to the filing of charges against both Mandge and Munjal at Shirur Police Station on Thursday.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Shirish Sardeshpande and Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Sheetal Janve, with further investigation being carried out by Police Inspector Pravin Nimbalkar.

Recently, Santosh Suryakant Kshirsagar, an Assistant Police Sub-Inspector, was booked by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹5 lakh, later reduced to ₹2 lakh, from a complainant.

The bribe was requested to prevent the complainant from being named as a co-accused and arrested in a fraud case, as per instructions from then-Police Inspector Shrihari Bahirat.
