Pune: BJP MLA Siddharth Shirole is preparing for a third consecutive win in the Shivajinagar Assembly constituency, where the BJP's development agenda is expected to dominate.
BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is paying special attention to this complex constituency, which has a mix of affluent areas and slums. Shirole believes the development projects he has overseen will support his re-election bid.
Shirole, who first won the seat in 2014, detailed the pressing issues in the constituency, such as traffic congestion, water supply, and economic challenges.
He emphasized that traffic congestion, a major concern for upper and middle-class residents, would be resolved by 2025 with the completion of ongoing projects, including Metro expansions and public transport improvements.
The Shivajinagar constituency was formed in 2009, and its electorate includes a mix of slum residents and affluent citizens with diverse political views.
Shirole, who won the 2019 election with a margin of 5,000 votes, said, "Election results here depend largely on how the campaign is conducted. With a strong focus on development, I am confident we will win."
Shirole further highlighted the government's efforts to resolve the water supply issue, stating that rainwater harvesting and the construction of water tanks are part of the solution.
He also assured that the SRA projects aimed at redeveloping slum areas would be accelerated, providing better housing and infrastructure for residents.
Meanwhile, NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) has made a strong pitch for the Shivajinagar Assembly constituency within the Maha Vikas Aghadi seat-sharing talks.
NCP (SP) leaders have approached party chief Sharad Pawar, arguing that their party has a stronger base in Shivajinagar and should be given the opportunity to contest from there.
