Pune: Somnath Ananta Wagh, a 24-year-old resident of Khanapur, who was injured in a violent altercation between two groups in Sambarewadi, Khadakwasla, on the night of Saturday (September 14), succumbed to his injuries. He was being treated at a private hospital after the fatal shooting which had escalated tensions in the region.

According to Sachin Wangde, the Inspector in charge of Haveli Police Station, police reinforcements have been deployed in Khanapur and surrounding areas to prevent further unrest following Wagh’s death.

The confrontation occurred between two rival groups due to a longstanding dispute between Rohit alias Bhorya Dhile and Tejas Wagh. During the altercation, Chetan alias Dadya Jawalkar reportedly fired two shots at Somnath Wagh, hitting him in the chest. Wagh was rushed to the hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he passed away.

In response to the incident, the Haveli Police have arrested three suspects: Chetan alias Dadya Jawalkar, Yash alias Mamya Jawalkar, and Praveen Sambare.

The conflict had deeper roots tied to an earlier incident where Rohit alias Bhorya Dhile was killed during a violent clash. He was reportedly attacked with iron rods and sharp weapons like sickles.

This earlier altercation, which led to Dhile's death, was rooted in a minor argument between the two groups. Both groups had filed complaints against each other, and the Haveli Police have registered cases against all parties involved, arresting the youths responsible for the violence.

The double fatalities and the simmering tension in the region have prompted authorities to maintain a heavy police presence in the area to prevent any further escalation.
