Pune: A visitor has fallen into a 250-foot-deep gorge below the Zunjar Buruj at Sinhagad Fort, raising concerns about their condition, as it is yet to be determined whether the individual is alive.

Police and forest department teams are on their way to the site following an alert from the archaeological department’s guards.

The incident came to light when guards from the Archaeological Department, responsible for regular cleaning activities at Sinhagad Fort, noticed the individual lying among the rocks below the Zunjar Buruj.

While it is uncertain how the person ended up in the gorge, the presence of several early morning visitors who come to the fort for exercise every Sunday has raised questions about when exactly the incident took place.

Personnel from Haveli Police Station and the forest department have been notified and are en route to the site. The rescue operation is expected to commence once the officials arrive.

Earlier on October 9, a young woman, distressed after a minor argument at home, was rescued from an apparent suicide attempt at Sinhagad Fort, thanks to the quick action of forest guards, police, and local citizens. The woman was safely handed over to her parents by evening.

The woman arrived at Sinhagad alone in the afternoon and was seen crying while talking on her phone.

Witnesses overheard her saying she might take her own life, which immediately raised alarms.
