Social Worker Receives Death Threat on Facebook Over Comments on Baba Siddiqui Murder

Salil Urunkar

Pune: A 40-year-old social worker has filed a police complaint after receiving a death threat on Facebook for commenting on the murder of Baba Siddiqui.

The Swargate police station has registered a case against a person using a fake Facebook account under the name "Sumeet Dada Ghule Patil."

According to the police, the complainant operates a social organization called "Uddhishta Prerana Group" and also runs a car care and washing center in Mahabaleshwar.

After the murder of Baba Siddiqui, the complainant posted a statement on Facebook. Once it was confirmed that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was behind the attack, he made another post, calling for the mastermind behind the murder to be apprehended and punished.

Following this post, the complainant received a death threat from the fake Facebook account. The social worker suspects that the person behind the account might be connected to the international Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

The Swargate police have launched an investigation, with Senior Police Inspector Yuvraj Nandre leading the probe.

A prominent jeweler in Pune has been threatened with extortion for ten crore rupees in an email sent in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

The Pune Crime Branch has launched an investigation following the complaint. This incident has raised alarms as the gang had gained notoriety recently after the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddiqui.
