Pune: A special umbrella has been crafted for this year's grand procession of Sant Tukaram Maharaj's Palkhi from Dehu.
This special umbrella was prepared in Chennai by Rajesh Bhujbal and his friends, who serve at the Vitthal temple in Bhavani Peth, Pune, to provide shade for Tukobaraya’s Palkhi.
For the 339th Palkhi procession of Sant Tukaram Maharaj, the temple administration has commissioned a new velvet umbrella.
What's special about this umbrella?
The umbrella showcases intricate craftsmanship. Velvet fabric has been used for this year's umbrella, adorned with elaborate designs such as Abdagiri, Garud Tikke, and silk flags, which are sure to catch the devotees' attention. Additionally, the umbrella features woven images of conch shells, chakras, tilak (sandalwood paste marks), Garud, and Hanuman.
Moreover, the ribs of the umbrella are made from natural bamboo splints, avoiding the use of iron wires. For holding the umbrella, an 8-foot tall sturdy stainless steel pipe has been used. The umbrella is topped with a brass finial, making the entire structure highly attractive.
