SPPU Faces Exam Scheduling Issues Amid Staff Transfers

Shivraj Sanas

Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), which had resumed conducting all exams on schedule post-COVID, is facing potential challenges in its examination planning due to the recent transfer of employees in the examination department.

The transfers, part of routine promotions, have led to concerns about the impact on exam scheduling and coordination, as new employees have been assigned to critical roles with no prior experience in exam management.

University officials, including deputy registrars from various departments, met with acting Registrar Dr. Jyoti Bhakare to request a stay on the transfers, highlighting the potential risks to the examination process.

However, Dr. Bhakare clarified that there would be no changes to the decisions made by the former Registrar, and the transfers would proceed as planned.

Consequently, the examination department has issued a written notice, stating that the university administration will be held responsible if any difficulties arise in exam planning.

The transfers have affected 9 out of 12 staff members in the coordination section of the examination department, leaving the team with largely inexperienced personnel.

This has raised concerns about the possibility of exam delays, especially as the university strives to adhere to the state’s mandate for timely exams and result announcements.

The Governor's office has previously directed all state universities to conduct exams within the planned time frame, emphasizing the importance of efficient exam management.

With the current staffing changes, SPPU’s ability to meet these expectations is under scrutiny. As the university navigates these challenges, the administration’s response to the transfers and its impact on the examination schedule will be closely watched.
