SRA to Build Transit Camps in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad With Private Participation

Pune: In an effort to remove one of the key bottlenecks in slum rehabilitation, the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has decided to build transit camps through private participation in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Transit camps are essential temporary housing solutions for slum dwellers during redevelopment projects, and the lack of such facilities has often slowed down the rehabilitation process.

The SRA has now invited tenders for the construction of 300-square-foot apartments on one-acre plots in both Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

This move is aimed at accelerating slum redevelopment, which has often been delayed due to the absence of temporary accommodation for displaced residents.

Under the new plan, landowners who are willing to participate will receive Transferable Development Rights (TDR) for the land they provide, while they will also be compensated with Amenity TDR for the construction work.

Each one-acre plot is expected to accommodate approximately 400 to 450 apartments, and the initial plan involves building around 800 to 900 units on two such plots in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Once these units are completed, around 2,000 transit camp apartments will be available for the SRA’s use.

This initiative marks a significant step forward in addressing the housing needs of slum dwellers during the rehabilitation process and will likely help fast-track many stalled projects.
