State CET Cell Investigates Alleged Unauthorized Admissions in Colleges

Salil Urunkar

Pune: The State CET (Common Entrance Test) Cell has initiated a crackdown on educational institutions allegedly engaging in unauthorized admissions for undergraduate and postgraduate professional courses.

This action comes in response to mounting complaints that some institutions are bypassing established regulations to admit students at the institutional level, raising concerns about the integrity of the admission process.

The State CET Cell has instructed a thorough investigation into the admission practices of these institutions. Any admissions found to be in violation of the rules will be immediately canceled.

This stern directive has placed considerable pressure on the heads of institutions that have been conducting admissions independently, as they now face the possibility of severe repercussions.

The spotlight is currently on the Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT), following a formal complaint by Kalpesh Yadav, the Deputy Secretary of the Yuva Sena.

Yadav has accused PICT of admitting students in violation of the established rules. In response, Dilip Sardesai, the Commissioner of the State CET Cell, has issued a circular announcing that PICT's admission process will undergo a detailed investigation to verify the claims.

This issue is not isolated to PICT alone. According to information gathered, several other institutions across Pune and the wider Maharashtra state have similarly flouted regulations in their admission processes.

The State CET Cell has therefore expanded its directive, instructing the Directorate of Technical Education to conduct a comprehensive review of the admissions conducted by all institutions under suspicion.

The enforcement of Rule 13 from the official Information Brochure is central to this crackdown. This rule mandates that all educational institutions must strictly adhere to the prescribed admission procedures for professional courses, with the Directorate of Technical Education responsible for ensuring compliance.

The Commissioner, Sardesai, has emphasized that any admission found to be unauthorized will be nullified, further heightening the tension around institutional-level admissions.
