Pune: In recognition of their contribution to education, 110 teachers from across Maharashtra have been selected for the prestigious Krantijyoti Savitrimai Phule State Teacher Excellence Awards for the year 2023-24.

The announcement was made by the state's School Education Department, with the awards ceremony scheduled to take place on September 5, celebrated as Teachers' Day, in Mumbai.

This year’s selection process was meticulous, with the State Selection Committee convening online on August 28 to finalize the list of awardees. The committee's recommendations were then submitted to the government on August 30, leading to the official announcement.

Breakdown of Awards

  • Primary Section: 38 teachers have been recognized for their outstanding contributions in primary education.

  • Secondary Section: 39 teachers have been selected from secondary schools.

  • Tribal Areas: 19 teachers working in challenging tribal regions have been honored.

  • Krantijyoti Savitrimai Phule Ideal Teacher Award: 8 teachers have been awarded under this special category, named after the social reformer who laid the foundation for women's education in India.

  • Special Arts and Sports Teachers: 2 teachers were recognized for their exceptional work in arts and sports education.

  • Schools for Differently-Abled Students: 1 teacher from this category has been honored for their dedicated service.

  • Scout-Guide Section: 2 teachers have been selected from this category.

  • In a special mention, an additional award in the primary section from Wardha district has been announced following a court directive.

This announcement follows the recent declaration of the National Teacher Awards by the Union Ministry of Education, where Maharashtra’s Sagar Bagade and Mantayya Bedke were among the recipients.

Bedke, in particular, was recognized for his extraordinary efforts to promote education in Naxalite-affected areas under extremely challenging conditions.

The state-level awards serve as an extension of this recognition, ensuring that teachers who have made a remarkable impact at the grassroots level are honored for their contribution.
