Pune: In a breakthrough case, Swargate police arrested two suspects in Bengaluru and solved 11 cases of laptop thefts, carried out by breaking car windows. The arrests were made after tracking the location of a stolen Apple laptop using its digital tracing capabilities.

The accused, identified as Suresh Kumar Pandurangan Servai (50) and Senthil Kumar Mahalingan (40), were involved in multiple thefts across Pune city.

Suresh Kumar, who hails from Tamil Nadu, has three previous cases registered against him in Mumbai’s Kurla and Dharavi police stations, while Senthil also has a history of theft at Kurla Railway Police Station.

The investigation began after a Fortuner parked near Swargate had its window smashed, and a bag containing an Apple laptop worth ₹1 lakh and AirPods was stolen.

A police team led by Assistant Inspector Changdev Sajgane, Sub-Inspector Ravindra Kaspat, and technical analyst Pratik Lahigude tracked the stolen laptop to a location in Bengaluru.

Coordinating with the local police, the Pune team, consisting of Assistant Inspector Sajgane, constables Firoz Shaikh and Sujay Pawar, traveled to Bengaluru and arrested Suresh Kumar Servai.

Upon interrogation, the accused confessed to stealing from 11 different cars across the city. The police were able to link these thefts to incidents in Swargate (5 cases), Khadak (2 cases), Chandan Nagar (2 cases), and one each in Deccan and Yerawada. The stolen goods included Apple and Dell laptops, worth a total of ₹1.5 lakh.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Pravinkumar Patil, and Assistant Commissioner Rahul Aware.

Senior officers Yuvraj Nande, Changdev Sajgane, Ravindra Kaspat, and a team of constables were instrumental in solving the case.
