In Pune, it’s all too common to see motorists skipping essential safety measures—seat belts go unused in cars, helmets are often left behind by bikers.

When confronted by traffic police, drivers frequently offer excuses or even attempt to bribe their way out of trouble, overlooking the critical purpose behind traffic rules: road traffic safety.

To combat this mindset, Pune Police have frequently run traffic awareness campaigns, aimed at instilling a sense of responsibility among commuters. However, these efforts often lose momentum, with their impact diminishing over time.

In a bid to create a lasting impression, Pune Police have launched a moving video, coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festival, to highlight the importance of traffic discipline.

The video centers around the emotional bond between siblings and uses this theme to remind viewers that following traffic rules is not just about avoiding fines—it's about safeguarding the lives of those we hold dear.

The video depicts a scene at a traffic signal where a driver is stopped by a woman traffic constable. As she approaches, the driver explains he’s in a rush to celebrate Raksha Bandhan with his sister, even offering a bribe to avoid any delays.

Instead of accepting, the constable ties a “Suraksha Rakhi” (Safety Rakhi) on his wrist, a symbolic gesture reminding him of his responsibility to drive safely. The driver leaves, now wearing his seat belt, with a renewed sense of accountability and gratitude.

This compelling video can be viewed on Pune Police’s official social media platform here.
