Pune witnessed another shooting incident, this time in the Wakad area of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The shooting occurred near Gate No. 7 of Phoenix Mall on the Pune-Bangalore Highway around 6:15 PM, where a person fired shots into the air after arriving in a white car. Despite a heavy police presence across the city for the immersion processions, the incident has raised concerns.

According to reports, a laborer named Avinash, working at the Phoenix Mall construction site, was approached by an individual in the evening. After the meeting, the individual fired shots into the air and fled the scene.

Wakad police, who were alerted by a concerned citizen, swiftly arrived at the location and detained a suspect. The reason behind the shooting is still under investigation, with the police reviewing CCTV footage to gather more evidence.

This incident adds to a series of recent shooting events in Pune, sparking worry among residents. Earlier in September, Vanraj Andekar was killed in a shooting in Nana Peth, Pune.

Since then, the city has witnessed four more shootings. On Monday (September 16), a sand business owner named Dilip Gaikwad was critically injured in a shooting in the Kondhwa area. Just before this, a confrontation between two groups in Khanapur village led to a shooting on Saturday night.

The shooting in Wakad occurred even as the city was in the midst of the vibrant Ganpati immersion processions, with crowds gathered to bid farewell to Lord Ganesh.

The police have reassured citizens that they are investigating the incident thoroughly. Deputy Commissioner Vishal Gaikwad stated that all necessary actions are being taken, and the suspect is in custody.
