Pune: In a dramatic incident driven by suspicion and rage, a man from Bhiwandi, originally from West Bengal, attempted to murder another man in Kalewadi, believing he had abducted his wife.
The Wakad Police have arrested Sabur Babar Ali, 36, who works at a shop in Bhiwandi, for allegedly attacking Shahadat Salamat Sheikh, 22, with a knife. Shahadat, who also hails from West Bengal, works at a shop in Kalewadi.
According to the Wakad Police, Sabur Ali suspected that Shahadat Sheikh had enticed his wife to run away, as she had left without informing anyone a few days prior.
Acting on this suspicion, Sabur traveled from Bhiwandi to Pune. On the night of September 3, at approximately 10:15 PM, Sabur confronted Shahadat at his workplace in Kalewadi, demanding answers regarding his missing wife.
During the confrontation, Shahadat firmly denied any involvement, stating he had no knowledge of Sabur’s wife’s whereabouts and was not responsible for her disappearance. However, Sabur, distrusting Shahadat’s claims, became violent. He pulled out a knife and made a threatening move towards Shahadat's neck.
Shahadat attempted to evade the attack, but the knife grazed his neck. The assault continued as Sabur slashed Shahadat’s left shoulder, arm, wrist, and thumb in a frenzied attack, intending to kill him.
Shahadat managed to escape further harm and immediately reported the assault to the Wakad Police. Acting swiftly, the police arrested Sabur Ali on charges of attempted murder. Police Sub-Inspector Nimbalkar is currently leading the investigation.
