Pune: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol inaugurated the newly constructed T2 Terminal at Pune Lohegaon Airport on Sunday (July 14), which is now open for passenger services. The first boarding pass for a passenger traveling from the new terminal was handed over by Minister Mohol.

Mohol announced that India’s aviation sector has made substantial progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, achieving the third position globally.

T2 Terminal now open for passengers

Over the past decade, 469 new air routes have been established in India, and new terminals have been constructed at major airports like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Ayodhya. Minister Mohol emphasized that these achievements are a matter of national pride.

Looking ahead, Minister Mohol revealed plans for the construction of an additional 20 to 25 new airports across the country. The new terminal at Pune is expected to facilitate the smooth transportation of approximately 9 to 10 million passengers annually. He assured that all services from the old terminal would soon be made available at the new terminal.

The new terminal at Lohegaon Airport was constructed to accommodate the growing number of air travelers in Pune, addressing the limitations of the old terminal.

It is designed to reflect Pune’s rich culture and heritage. The terminal was officially inaugurated remotely by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 10, 2024. Following the completion of all pending work, the terminal is now fully operational for passenger services.

The road from the new T2 terminal to Viman Nagar is now open, along with two additional roads – one leading to Symbiosis and another to Lohegaon. This new arrangement is expected to ease the traffic congestion.

Illegal parking around Pune airport has caused severe traffic jams, particularly at night, resulting in many travelers missing their flights. With T2 set to open to passengers on Sunday (14th), there were concerns about increased congestion.

However, the opening of the new road to Viman Nagar is expected to provide significant relief. This road will accommodate a large volume of traffic, helping to distribute vehicles and reduce jams.
