Pune: Heavy downpour persisted in the ghat regions, with Tamhini Ghat recording the highest rainfall at 168 mm over the last 24 hours (July 21).

Pune City experienced a respite from rain on Sunday (July 21), with dry weather in some areas and light drizzles in others. As per the latest IMD-GFS chart analysis, there will be an increase in westerly wind depth for the Pune region. As a result, there is an increased probability of penetration of rain-bearing clouds over Pune city, tweeted research scientist Vineet Kumar.

As July nears its end, both the city and the district have yet to see significant rainfall. Most areas have received insufficient rain, leaving farmers worried about their crops, which have already been sown but lack adequate water. Light showers occurred sporadically throughout Sunday, while some areas experienced clear skies, giving a break from the rain.

Post 4 PM, dark clouds gathered, leading to hopes of substantial rainfall, but the rain eluded the city. By 5:30 PM, Koregaon Park recorded the highest rainfall with 3 mm, Pashan had 2 mm, and Wadgaon Sheri and Shivajinagar recorded 1 mm each.

In the last 24 hours, the ghat regions experienced substantial rainfall. Tamhini Ghat recorded 168 mm, Shirgaon had 114 mm, Dhawdi recorded 111 mm, Dharavi had 96 mm, Bhira recorded 84 mm, and Lonavala received 60 mm of rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rainfall in the ghat regions and light to moderate showers in the city over the next two days.
