Tata Chemicals and BAIF Sign MoU to Develop Innovative Bio-Based Agricultural Solutions

New products like Spineless Cactus and Hybrid Napier to be developed that can be scaled up, with protocols transferred for the benefit of farmers.

Pune: Tata Chemicals Limited (TCL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BAIF Development Research Foundation (BAIF), Pune, to explore the production of Spineless Cactus and Hybrid Napier. This partnership aligns with Tata Chemicals' commitment to promoting green sustainable solutions and enhancing rural development.

The collaboration will leverage BAIF’s extensive experience in implementing sustainable agricultural practices, agro-biodiversity conservation, climate-smart agriculture, and renewable energy initiatives.

TCL will contribute its expertise in advanced technologies such as nutrition biosciences, nanotechnology, agro-chemistry, advanced materials, and its capabilities in rapid research and development to bring solutions to scale.

Dr. Richard Lobo, Head of Innovation, R&D, CQH, and Chief Ethics Counsellor at Tata Chemicals, said, “Tata Chemicals and BAIF share a common goal of enhancing farmer welfare.

Together, we aim to develop new products like Spineless Cactus and Hybrid Napier that can be scaled up, with protocols transferred for the benefit of farmers.

Our collaboration will deliver innovative solutions in bio-energy, fodder, and bio-based products, such as bio-leather, providing significant value to the agricultural sector.”

Dr. Bharat Kakade, President and Managing Trustee of BAIF, added, “Our partnership with Tata Chemicals Limited will bring newer climate-smart technologies to rural communities.

We are enthusiastic about supporting Tata Chemicals’ agri-tech initiatives that aim to improve rural livelihoods. We look forward to collaborating closely with their R&D facilities to develop cutting-edge agricultural products and technologies.”

This MoU marks a significant step towards integrating advanced agricultural technologies with sustainable practices, aiming to foster rural development and provide innovative, eco-friendly solutions in agriculture and bio-energy.
