Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh: The 2nd edition of the International Tawang Marathon was held today, coinciding with United Nations Day, in the high-altitude town of Tawang.

Jointly organized by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and the Indian Army, the event attracted 4,580 participants, including 1,199 women, from 27 states across India and ten foreign countries.

Among the participants was an 80-year-old runner from Mumbai, demonstrating the marathon’s inclusivity for all age groups.

Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Gajraj Corps were also present, running alongside participants to symbolize the unity and collaboration between the local population, the government, and the Indian Army.

Set against the majestic backdrop of the Eastern Himalayas, the marathon posed a significant challenge to the runners, who navigated steep inclines and sharp descents in the high-altitude terrain.

In return, participants were rewarded with panoramic views of Tawang’s untouched landscape, adding to the allure of the race.

Beyond being a competitive event, the marathon brought a substantial economic boost to the region, benefitting local businesses, particularly in tourism and hospitality.

Thousands of visitors contributed to the local economy while also experiencing Tawang’s potential as a premier destination for adventure tourism.

The event offered an opportunity to showcase the cultural richness of the Monpa community, providing a glimpse into their traditions and way of life.

The collaborative nature of the event highlighted the strong bond between the people of Arunachal Pradesh and the Indian Army.
