Traffic Congestion in Sus: Call for Alternative Routes, Road Development

Neelam Karale

Pune: Traffic in Sus village has come to a standstill due to rain-induced potholes and narrow roads, with long queues of vehicles, especially from Tapkir Vasti to Sunny’s World.

The narrow roads have become a bottleneck for vehicles traveling to and from Pashan, Pirangut, Paud, Hinjewadi, and Mulshi.

Heavy traffic from Hinjewadi IT companies, schools, and hospitals exacerbates the congestion. Daily traffic jams at critical points like the village crematorium, Shivba Chowk, and Sunny’s World cause significant delays and fuel wastage. The situation demands the establishment of alternative routes to alleviate the congestion.

Despite the Pashan-Sus road being wide, converging traffic from various points overwhelms Sus village. Erratic driving to bypass the congestion leads to disputes and accidents.

The traffic police presence is insufficient to manage the volume and limited road capacity. The situation is critical if emergency vehicles like ambulances get stuck.

Narayan Chandere, local resident says, "Even though traffic police and officers are present on this route, the sheer volume of vehicles and limited road capacity make it difficult to clear the congestion.

In the event an ambulance gets stuck in this traffic, the lack of an alternative route could lead to serious situations. Residents of the area have demanded that the administration take immediate steps to resolve this issue.

The proposed roads in the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (PMRDA) development plan, once developed, will permanently alleviate the congestion problem for all travelers."

Prasad Gokule, Police Inspector, Hinjewadi Traffic Division said, "The major issues on the Sus road are potholes caused by rain, encroachments, and narrow roads. The concerned departments have been informed. Efforts are ongoing to ensure smooth traffic flow."

Maya Joshi, Resident, Sus Village: "Traffic congestion is also caused by erratic driving. Traffic police should take a strict stance and act against those violating traffic rules."
