Traffic Diversions in Pune for Muharram Processions

DCP Traffic Rohidas Pawar said that traffic on the procession routes will be diverted and will revert to normal once the processions pass.

Pune: The central parts of Pune city will see significant traffic diversions from Wednesday (July 17) afternoon to accommodate the Muharram processions.

The main procession will begin at approximately 3 PM from the Shrinath Cinema area on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road and will traverse key city routes including Lashkar, Khadki, and Patil Estate area on Mumbai-Pune Road.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic Branch) Rohidas Pawar announced that traffic on the procession routes will be diverted and will revert to normal once the processions pass.

The central procession will pass through major junctions like Shri Datt Mandir Chowk, Belbag Chowk, Hutatma Chowk, Shaniwarwada, Phutka Buruj, Gadgil Statue Chowk, Dengale Bridge, Juna Bazar, and Shahid Amar Shaikh Chowk, culminating at Sangam Bridge.

In the Cantonment area, the procession will start at 12 PM from Taboot Street, moving through Batalewala Bagh, Sarbatwala Chowk, Babajan Dargah, Bhopale Chowk, Gayaksab Masjid, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Kohinoor Chowk, Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk, and Buty Street, returning to Batalewala Bagh.

These Tazias will join the main procession at Belbag Chowk via Nehru Memorial Hall, Rasta Peth, Daruwala Bridge, Phadke Haud Chowk, Moti Chowk, and Sonya Maruti Chowk.

The Khadki area’s procession will commence at 5:45 PM, passing through Bopodi and ending at the riverside in Dapodi. Another procession from Patil Estate on Mumbai-Pune Road will start at 4 PM, also concluding at Sangam Bridge.

The Cantonment area will see another procession beginning at 9:45 AM from Imamwada, passing through Nehru Memorial Hall, the Police Commissioner’s Office, Sadhu Vaswani Chowk, and Connaught Road, ending back at Imamwada.

Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays.
