Pimpri: After a three-day-long strike, employees of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Regional Transport Office (RTO) resumed their duties on Friday, following a positive outcome on their long-pending demands.

This has brought relief to the office's operations, which had come to a halt, causing significant inconvenience to the public, especially those seeking vehicle-related services.

The strike began on Tuesday (September 24) as employees pressed for several issues, including the implementation of the Kalaskar Committee’s recommendations, resolution of delayed promotions, and changes to the transfer policy.

The disruption caused a complete shutdown of services in the regional office, affecting hundreds of citizens who rely on the RTO for tasks such as applying for new driving licenses, vehicle inspections, and ownership transfers.

Despite many RTO services transitioning to online platforms, citizens still need to visit the office for the submission of documents and certain essential services.

The strike left many unaware citizens making futile trips to the office, further exacerbating the chaos. This was particularly challenging for people traveling from neighboring regions like Khed, Junnar, Ambegaon, and Maval.

Following discussions between union leaders and the Transport Commissioner’s office, several key decisions were made:

• The rule concerning transfers to other revenue districts was abolished, limiting transfers to within the 15 divisional offices.

• It was agreed that promotion rules for senior clerks to office superintendents would be finalized by October 30, 2024, and promotions would be granted to eligible employees during this period.

• Other outstanding demands were met with a positive response from the administration.

Rahul Jadhav, Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Pimpri-Chinchwad, said, “Employees had gone on strike for various demands, which have now been resolved positively. As a result, the strike has been called off, and employees have returned to work, resuming normal operations."
