Pune: A disturbing case of alleged 'digital' Triple Talaq has surfaced in Kondhwa, Pune, where a man reportedly divorced his wife through a series of notices sent via WhatsApp.

The wife, Ayesha Firoz Akhtar, has filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws, accusing them of severe harassment, including demands for additional dowry, character assassination, and eventual expulsion from the home.

The incident began when Ayesha received the first notice of Triple Talaq on June 14, sent by her husband, Firoz Akhtar, via WhatsApp, with subsequent notices planned to follow.

The police have registered a case against Firoz under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019. Additional charges under the Dowry Prohibition Act have also been filed against Firoz and eight other members of his family, including his brothers and sisters.

Ayesha, who has two children, revealed that her father had already given ₹12 million to her husband following their marriage in 2004.

However, despite the financial support, Ayesha alleges that her husband became involved in an illicit relationship, leading to continuous mental and emotional abuse.

The situation escalated to the point where Ayesha was expelled from the home, and her private photos were circulated among family members and online, leading to public humiliation.

Ayesha’s complaint details years of abuse, including forced educational pursuits, physical and emotional torment, and character defamation by her in-laws. The police are currently investigating the case.
