Pune: Following the Ujani Dam's reaching 100% capacity, water has been released into the Bhima River since August 4. Alongside this, 1,600 cusecs of water have been daily allocated to the hydroelectric power plant at the dam, resulting in the generation of 66 lakh units of electricity over the past 22 days.

This power generation, which is valued at approximately ₹2 crore, is expected to continue for another month as water continues to flow into the dam.

Ujani Dam, which was at a low level at the end of July, quickly filled to capacity and began overflowing within days. This led to the release of water into the Bhima River, as well as through canals, tunnels, and lift irrigation schemes.

The hydroelectric power plant at the dam has been producing three lakh units of electricity daily, contributing to the state's power supply.

MSEDCL, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited, buys the electricity produced by Ujani and other dam-based power plants for ₹3.50 per unit. The Ujani power plant is expected to keep producing electricity for at least another month given the significant influx from Daund and the continuation of the monsoon season.

Ujani dam significantly supports the expansion of kharif crop cultivation and is crucial to the region, which houses over 40 sugar factories, the highest concentration in Solapur district.

50 TMC Water Released from Ujani Dam Since August 4

Since August 4, a total of 50 TMC of water has been released from Ujani Dam into the Bhima River. Water continues to be discharged through various channels, including canals and tunnels.

However, due to ongoing rainfall across the region, much of this water is flowing back into the rivers as it is not being utilized.
