Pune: In a major boost for the fishermen of Indapur taluka, one crore fish seeds will soon be released into the Ujani dam through the District Planning Committee.

This initiative, driven by MLA Dattatraya Bharane's persistent efforts, has received a substantial financial backing of two crore rupees, sanctioned by Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar.

The decision was cemented during a recent District Planning Committee meeting where MLA Bharane reiterated the need to support the local fishing community. Minister Pawar responded positively, swiftly ordering the necessary arrangements for the fish seed release.

Last year marked the first occasion in the taluka’s history when one crore fish seeds were introduced into the reservoir, significantly benefiting the fishermen. This year, the anticipation is even higher, with Minister Pawar’s prompt actions promising immediate implementation.

"The fishermen of Indapur are elated with this news," said MLA Bharane. "This initiative not only ensures the sustainability of their livelihood but also fosters a sense of community prosperity. The official execution of this plan is expected to begin soon, bringing much-needed relief and joy to our fishing families."

In December 2023 too, the Maharashtra Government and Fisheries Department of Pune had released one crore fish seeds into the Ujani dam.

Eight lakh fish seeds were released on December 8, near the Pomlawadi Bridge and the Mahadev Temple in Kettur (Taluka Karmala). For the past 28 to 30 years, such a large quantity of fish seeds has never been released into the Ujani dam.

Officials from the Water Resources Department, fishermen, and local villagers were present in large numbers on this occasion. This was a joyous event for the fishermen who fish in the area.
