Pune: Pimple Nilakh, a vital traffic hub connecting Baner and Balewadi, will soon see the construction of a much-needed underpass at Rakshak Society Chowk. This initiative is part of a broader effort to alleviate the severe traffic congestion along the Sangvi Phata to Ravet BRTS route.

The Rakshak Society Chowk frequently witnesses traffic jams, primarily due to the high volume of vehicles, including many commuters from the IT hub in Hinjewadi. The underpass aims to ease this pressure.

As part of the project, 40 trees, including species like rain trees, thorny babul, and shishu, have been removed to make way for the construction.

While the removal of these trees was necessary to avoid obstructions, the municipal corporation has also planned the replantation of 13 trees, including peepal, cassia, and neem. A report on the replantation will be submitted after completion.

The underpass will span an 18-meter road, and the project has been approved with a budget of ₹7.62 crores. After reviewing several bids, the lowest tender of ₹5.73 crores was awarded to HC Kataria Company, and construction is set to begin soon.

With the increasing number of commuters using the Mula Bridge near Jupiter, traffic congestion at Rakshak Chowk has become a significant issue. To address this rising problem, the planned subway offers a strategic solution designed to reduce gridlock and improve the mobility experience for both residents and travelers passing through the area.
