Pune: After a ten-day break, heavy rains returned to Pune, causing knee-deep waterlogging in several areas within minutes. The Hadapsar region was particularly affected, with significant flooding reported.

The downpour occurred just before Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was scheduled to unveil a Lord Shri Ram sculpture in Handewadi, where the event site also experienced severe water accumulation.

The unexpected rain caught Pune residents by surprise, forcing many to scramble for cover. Those without umbrellas were particularly inconvenienced as the rain, which had been absent for ten days, returned with intensity.

Several parts of the city experienced heavy showers, disrupting normal life. Roads within the city, especially Tilak road during evening hours, were already congested due to heavy police bandobast for VVIP movement.

The Chief Minister’s event in Handewadi was notably affected, with rain lashing the area for nearly one to two hours. The venue, set for the inauguration of a Lord Shri Ram temple by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, saw chairs floating in the waterlogged area. Although the rain subsided later, water slowly receded from the site.

Waterlogging has been reported across many parts of Pune, leading to traffic jams and significant disruption to daily life. Streets were inundated with knee-deep water, forcing commuters to wade through flooded areas.

Just ten days ago, Pune was dealing with a flood situation, which had caused severe challenges. The rains had since paused, only to return abruptly today, leading to further disruption in some parts of the city.

The downpour began in the evening, and within an hour and a half, large amounts of water had accumulated, causing widespread issues.
