On Monday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her Union Budget 21-22 in the Lok Sabha. In the beginning of her speech, she mentioned that this year’s speech rests on six pillars – health & well-being, physical & financial capital and infrastructure, inclusive development for aspirational India, reinvigorating human capital, innovation and R&D, and minimum government-maximum governance.

She also mentioned that it was only three times that the budget followed contraction in the economy. The finance minister further stated that the budget has increased 2021-22 capital expenditure by 34.4 per cent to 5.54 lakh crore.
This was the first time that the Union Budget was presented in a paperless format. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was seen carrying a tablet instead of her iconic Bahi Khata on Monday. For the first time in India, instead of hard copies, soft copies of the budget were provided to all the MPs (Member of Parliament).
