Uruli Devachi, Phursungi Now Independent Municipalities; PMC Retains Garbage Depot

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has officially excluded the villages of Uruli Devachi and Phursungi from its jurisdiction and established them as independent municipalities.

This decision was confirmed by the state government on Wednesday (September 11). Despite the administrative change, the garbage depot serving these villages will remain under the PMC’s jurisdiction.

Since their inclusion in the PMC in 2017, these villages had been a significant source of revenue for the municipal body. However, residents frequently complained about the lack of facilities and services provided.

To address these concerns, former MLA Vijay Shivtare and local residents petitioned Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, requesting that the villages be granted independent municipal status.

In response to these appeals, Chief Minister Shinde announced in December 2022 that Uruli Devachi and Phursungi would be removed from the PMC jurisdiction and established as separate municipalities.

After a lengthy process involving objections and suggestions, the state government has finalized this decision. Until the new municipal structure is fully established, Purandar Tehsildar Vikram Rajput will oversee the administration of these villages.

However, the PMC has yet to receive clear instructions regarding the allocation of funds, the transfer process for municipal assets, and the status of PMC employees previously assigned to these villages.

The revised municipal boundaries will be as follows:

  • Eastern Boundary: Includes the Loni Kalbhor village area.

  • Western Boundary: Includes Outadewadi, Vadachiwadi, and Hadapsar village areas.

  • Southern Boundary: Includes Wadki village area and Shelkarwadi.

  • Northern Boundary: Includes Hadapsar village, Shevalewadi, and Loni Kalbhor.

The exclusion of these villages will also affect the PMC’s jurisdictional boundaries. Uruli Devachi, which had a significant population and housed the garbage depot, will no longer be part of the PMC, although the garbage depot itself will remain within its jurisdiction.

The new boundaries will include the revenue areas of Manjari Bk, Shevalewadi, Hadapsar, and the garbage depot in Phursungi, while the southeastern boundary will include Mahmandwadi, Holkarwadi, and Outade Handewadi, as well as the garbage depot in Uruli Devachi.
