Pune: On the final day for filing nominations, a tense altercation erupted at the election office in Thergaon, Chinchwad, where candidates from various parties had gathered to submit their papers.

Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi candidate Javed Rasheed Sheikh has filed a complaint against Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate Rahul Kalate, alleging that Kalate threatened to kill him if he continued with his candidacy. The incident has since stirred significant attention.

According to the complaint filed at the Kalewadi Police Station, Javed Sheikh alleged that as he arrived to submit his nomination papers, Rahul Kalate confronted him and questioned his intentions, reportedly saying, “Why are you filing this form? If you go through with it, I will take care of you,” followed by an alleged death threat.

Sheikh also claimed that Kalate threw his election documents out of the gallery. The Kalewadi Police have since registered a non-cognizable offense regarding the matter, intensifying the atmosphere on the last day of nominations.

Rahul Kalate, representing Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) within the Maha Vikas Aghadi, responded to the allegations by calling them false.

He stated, “A false complaint has been lodged against me. I only asked him to move aside as he was standing too close to the women. I urge the police to check the CCTV footage—I did not threaten him.”

The accusation against a Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate for alleged intimidation has added an unexpected twist to the Chinchwad Assembly constituency race, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty.
