Pune: Police investigations have revealed that the fatal attack on Vanraj Suryakant Andekar, carried out by a group of 10 to 12 young men armed with a pistol and a machete, was orchestrated by Andekar’s own sister and brother-in-law.

Vanraj, a former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator was brutally murdered on Sunday (September 1) night around 9:30 PM in Doke Talim area of Pune city.

Vanraj Andekar had recently intervened in a quarrel and allegedly played a role in having an illegal shop encroachment removed, which angered his sister, Sanjeevani Jayant Komkar.

She reportedly threatened him, saying, "I will call the boys and have you beaten up," leading to the fatal assault later that evening. The motive behind the murder appears to stem from this family dispute.

The police have registered a case against multiple suspects, including Sanjeevani Jayant Komkar, her husband Jayant Laxman Komkar, and several other individuals. The complaint was filed by Suryakant alias Bandu Ranuji Andekar, Vanraj's father.

According to the complaint, the conflict began on September 1 when the accused had a disagreement with a man named Aakash Suresh Pardeshi. The altercation escalated at the Samarth police station, where Vanraj and his nephew Shivam Andekar tried to mediate.

During the confrontation, Sanjeevani and Jayant assaulted Akash, and Sanjeevani threatened Vanraj, accusing him of interfering in their affairs and ordering the demolition of their shop.

Later that night, Vanraj was attacked and killed. The police are continuing their investigation, and further arrests are expected as the case unfolds.
