Pune: A traffic safety awareness program was organized by the Young Inspirators Network (YIN) in collaboration with the Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology (VIIT).
The event aimed to promote safe driving practices among students and to educate them on the importance of following traffic rules to prevent accidents caused by negligence or minor mistakes.
As part of this initiative, officials from the Pune Traffic Police provided a comprehensive session on traffic safety.
They offered guidance on various safety measures and regulations that should be adhered to while driving. The session also included practical demonstrations to illustrate the importance of caution while managing traffic on the roads.
The program saw active participation from students across different departments of the college, who expressed interest in learning about traffic safety and the importance of following traffic rules for the benefit of all commuters.
The dignitaries present at the event engaged in open dialogue with the students, discussing the critical role they play in promoting road safety.
Key speakers at the event included Mahesh Kurulekar, Registrar of VIIT, who welcomed the guests and students.
Dr. Radhika Purandare, Dean of Student Affairs, spoke about the need for such programs in educational institutions, while NSS Program Officer Vikas Kolekar emphasized the role of student participation in public safety initiatives.
Vishal Ambhore, the Placement Officer, along with YIN members Sopan Ghadge, Om Ambalkar, and Anjali Chaudhari, were also present, contributing to the event’s organization.
Balaji Dighole, Assistant Police Sub-Inspector, Pune Traffic Police said, "Laws alone cannot reduce road accidents; citizens must develop the habit of following rules. It is the responsibility of educators to cultivate a generation that prioritizes road safety. Students should actively learn traffic rules and contribute to reducing accidents."
Dr. Vivek Deshpande, Director of VIIT said, "Using helmets significantly increases the chances of survival in the event of an accident. Additionally, everyone should carry a valid driving license at all times. Compliance with traffic regulations ensures smoother traffic flow and fewer disruptions."
