Pune: On the night of October 21, a group of four men attacked two journalists and attempted to snatch a gold chain after a confrontation over a car's headlights.

The incident occurred around 10 PM in an open field in Khulewadi, Viman Nagar. Crime Branch Unit 4 arrested one of the accused in connection with the case.

The incident began when Ankur Dubey, a journalist working for a Hindi newspaper, and his friend Abhishek Shukla were in their car at an open field.

Two men who were sitting nearby became irritated when the car's headlights shone on them and began abusing Dubey and Shukla. The journalists parked the car and questioned why the men were swearing, which escalated the situation.

The two men called in two more individuals, and the four of them began physically assaulting Dubey and Shukla. They struck them multiple times, aiming for the stomach, head, and back.

During the altercation, one of the attackers attempted to snatch Dubey’s gold chain. Although the chain broke and remained stuck in Dubey's jacket, the assailants successfully took a pendant worth ₹45,000.

The assault was interrupted by local residents who gathered at the scene and managed to break up the fight. Following this, Dubey filed a complaint at the Airport Police Station, leading to a case being registered for robbery.

The breakthrough in the case came during routine patrols by officers from the Crime Branch Unit 4. Based on a tip-off, Police Constable Vinod Mahajan and Officer Nagesh Singh Kunwar learned that one of the suspects, Somnath Kamble, was hiding in Khulewadi.

Acting swiftly, the police team arrested Kamble. After completing his medical examination, he was handed over to the Vimantal Police for further investigation.
