Solapur: In a tragic incident, national-level volleyball and cricket player Nitin Subhash Gaikwad was found dead in the Sina River near the Lamboti area.
The 48-year-old sportsman, who had achieved significant recognition in both cricket and volleyball, was reported missing two days prior. His body was discovered on September 28, and authorities have confirmed his death as a suicide, though the reasons remain unknown.
Nitin Gaikwad, a resident of Budhwar Peth, Mohol, had left his home early on the morning of September 26 at around 7:30 AM. When he failed to return home by the end of the day, his family grew concerned.
His brother, Pravin Gaikwad, filed a missing person report at the Mohol police station on September 27. Sadly, the next day, his body was found in the Sina River.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, but as of now, no clear reason for his suicide has been identified. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination at the local rural hospital, and authorities have registered the case accordingly.
Nitin Gaikwad was well-known in sports circles for his achievements in volleyball and cricket, representing both Maharashtra and other states at national tournaments.
His death has left the community in shock. Nitin was the son of Subhash Gaikwad, a newspaper vendor at the Mohol ST Stand. He is survived by his parents, wife, a son, a daughter, and three brothers.
