Pune: In a dramatic turn of events, Walchandnagar police apprehended a suspect after an intense cinematic-style chase through Sansar village in Indapur Taluka on Monday (October 7) afternoon.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Deepak Maruti Mane, had been evading police capture since August when a case was filed against him for assault and atrocities.

Mane had successfully managed to evade the authorities since August 17, 2024, when the complaint was first registered at the Walchandnagar Police Station.

However, on Monday, Assistant Police Inspector Rajkumar Dunge received a tip-off that Mane was spotted near the market area adjacent to the Sansar Gram Panchayat office around 2 PM. Without delay, Dunge dispatched a team of officers to the location to apprehend the fugitive.

Upon seeing the approaching police team, Mane fled towards the nearby bridge over the Sansar stream. In a desperate attempt to escape, he leaped into the water.

Undeterred, three determined officers—Constables Shailesh Swami, Ajit Thorat, and Gulab Patil—pursued Mane with a cinematic flair, jumping into the stream after him. After a short chase through the water, the officers successfully caught and arrested Mane.

Mane is now in police custody and will be presented before the court soon, bringing an end to the nearly two-month-long manhunt.

This high-adrenaline chase, resembling scenes straight out of an action movie, has garnered attention in the local community, showcasing the quick thinking and bravery of the Walchandnagar police in apprehending a fugitive.
