Pune: A tragic incident took place at the Urban Forest Park on Ramnagar Ganpati Matha Hill in Warje, Pune, where a 13-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a water-filled quarry.

The park, developed by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, has become the site of a heartbreaking loss.

The deceased has been identified as Daksh Sushant Kamble, a resident of Ramnagar in Warje. According to local reports, Daksh and three other boys, all aged between 13 and 14, ventured to the park on Thursday (August 15) afternoon. The group decided to swim in the rainwater-filled quarry, which is a common feature in the park.

During the swim, Daksh tragically lost his life as he drowned in the water. His friends, terrified by the incident, failed to inform anyone about what had happened. It wasn’t until later in the evening, when Daksh didn’t return home, that his family began searching for him. They eventually learned from his friends that he had gone swimming in the quarry and drowned.

Following the family’s discovery, the Warje Malwadi Police were alerted, and they, along with the Warje Fire Brigade, immediately launched a search operation.

Despite nearly two hours of effort, including the use of a boat, Daksh’s body was not initially found. It was only around 12:15 a.m., after a person brought in by the police entered the water, that the body was recovered. The remains were then sent to Sassoon Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Daksh Kamble was a student in the seventh grade at Navbharat High School in Shivane. The incident has left the local community in deep shock and grief.
