Pune: A case of medical negligence has surfaced in Pune, where an engineer has been bedridden for two years following a botched weight loss surgery. The incident has led to the filing of charges against two doctors, Dr. Prashant Yadav and Dr. Swapnil Nage, at Deccan Police Station.

According to the police, the complainant's wife worked as a quality engineer at a company in Kharadi. Due to her excess weight, she sought information on weight loss methods. She came across Desire Clinic in the Erandwane area.

The engineer contacted the clinic and inquired about weight loss procedures. The clinic staff informed her that liposuction surgery was performed for weight reduction.

Subsequently, on October 16, 2022, the engineer underwent liposuction surgery, during which 4.5 liters of fat was removed. However, post-surgery, the engineer's condition deteriorated, and she was immediately admitted to a private hospital.

During the surgery, after administering anesthesia, her pulse rate and blood pressure dropped, and the oxygen supply to her brain was interrupted, causing brain damage.

The engineer received treatment at the private hospital for three months. When her condition did not improve, she was taken home. Since then, she has been bedridden, unable to speak, and only able to blink her eyes, as noted in the husband's complaint. Senior Police Inspector Nimbalkar is investigating the case.
