In a move that will possibly benefit thousands of Indians working on H-1B visas in America, President Joe Biden has lifted a ban, issued by his predecessor Donald Trump, on people seeking a green card to enter the United States.

The Green card is a Permanent Resident Card issued to immigrants to grant them the permanent residing privilege legally.

Donald Trump last year during the pandemic had imposed a ban on the issuance of green cards until March 31, 2021, saying that it was needed to protect US workers and high unemployment due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

However, President Biden revoked the visa ban on Wednesday. In his proclamation, he said that the policy of former President Donald Trump does not advance the interests of the United States and it has prevented lawful permanent residents from reuniting with their families.

The US is currently facing a backlog of nearly 473,000 qualified family-based Green Card requests.

Biden has pledged to reverse many of the Trump-era’s policies on immigration.
