US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden’s two German Shepherds were sent back to their family home in Wilmington, Delaware last week after one of the dogs was involved in a biting incident with a White House security agent.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Tuesday confirmed that two dogs – Champ and Major – are being shipped off to their family home after the three-year-old Major caused an injury to an individual.

Three-year-old Major, whom Biden and his wife Jill adopted in November 2018 from an animal shelter, had been displaying aggressive behavior including jumping, barking, and charging at White House staff and security, CNN reported.

“Champ and Major are still getting acclimated and accustomed to their surroundings and new people. And on Monday, the first family's younger dog, Major, was surprised by an unfamiliar person and reacted in a way that resulted in a minor injury to the individual," said Psaki during a weekly briefing.

However, Psaki clarified that the dogs are being taken away because the first lady was travelling for three days and it was previously planned already.

Psaki did not say when exactly the dogs might return to the White House, only that it will be "soon." Champ and Major moved into the White House in January, less than a week after Biden's inauguration, CNN reported.
