Pune Traffic police have initiated a strict enforcement campaign against heavy vehicles operating during peak hours, alongside measures to tackle triple riding, drunk driving, and wrong-way driving.

In the last 15 days, authorities have acted against approximately 25,000 drivers, impounding over 200 vehicles. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued a stern warning that vehicles caught driving in the wrong direction will be impounded for a duration of six months.

The city has witnessed a surge in accidents, primarily due to speeding and traffic rule violations. A significant number of these incidents involve vehicles driving against traffic flow.

To curb these offenses and ensure road safety, the traffic department has intensified its crackdown on unruly drivers, with over 200 vehicles impounded in the last two weeks alone for wrong-way driving violations, according to Commissioner Kumar.

The aim is to reduce accidents caused by these vehicles during high-traffic times. Commissioner Amitesh Kumar emphasized that the traffic police are enforcing this ban rigorously to maintain safety and order on the roads.
