Pune: A shocking incident unfolded in the Lonikand area on Nagar Road, where a 30-year-old man was murdered by his mother and her lover, allegedly due to his opposition to their illicit relationship.

The man, identified as Anil Lalsingh Thakur, was brutally killed after being struck on the head with a stone during an argument late Wednesday (October 9) night.

According to the police, Anil’s mother, Sumitra Lalsingh Thakur (55), and her lover, Praful Pundlik Tathod (34), both residents of Waghmare Vasti, Perne Phata, Nagar Road, were involved in the crime.

Sumitra has been arrested, while Praful is currently on the run. Anil’s brother, Sunil Thakur, filed the complaint at Lonikand Police Station, leading to an investigation.

The Thakur family, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had been residing in the Perne Phata area, working as daily laborers. Sumitra reportedly had an illicit relationship with Praful, which Anil had discovered, leading to frequent arguments between him and his mother.

On the night of the murder, Anil confronted his mother and her lover. The confrontation escalated, and both Sumitra and Praful allegedly attacked Anil, striking him on the head with a stone. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Anil succumbed to his injuries before treatment could begin.

Senior Police Inspector Pandit Rejitwad immediately visited the crime scene, and the police are continuing their search for the absconding Praful Tathod. Assistant Police Inspector Ghorpade is leading the investigation.

This incident marks the third murder in Pune in the past month related to illicit relationships. In previous cases, a woman in Karvenagar killed her husband with the help of her lover, and in Katraj, a woman and her lover were arrested for staging her husband's death as a suicide.
