Young Woman Loses Life in Katraj Chowk Accident, Third Tragedy in Recent Days

Mansi Ashok Pawar (26) residing at Ambegaon Pathar, was struck by a tanker while traveling on her Vespa scooter towards the Katraj-Kondhwa Road.

Pune: A tragic accident claimed the life of a young woman at Katraj Chowk on the morning of September 17, adding to the growing number of road fatalities in the area.

The victim, Mansi Ashok Pawar, aged 26 and a resident of Ambegaon Pathar, was struck by a tanker while traveling on her Vespa scooter towards the Katraj-Kondhwa Road.

The accident occurred at around 6:30 AM. The impact was so severe that Mansi died on the spot. This marks the third fatal accident in the Katraj Chowk area in recent days, leaving residents shocked and frustrated.

Earlier accidents claimed the lives of a PMPML contract worker and another young woman, raising concerns about road safety in the area.

The string of accidents has triggered anger and concern among local residents, who are demanding action to make the area safer. Many are questioning when the authorities will step in to prevent further loss of life.

The deceased’s body has been sent to Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem, and an investigation is underway by the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police.

Assistant Police Inspector Sameer Shende confirmed the incident and assured that efforts are being made to identify the tanker driver responsible for the accident.

Meanwhile, the long-awaited land acquisition for the Katraj-Kondhwa road project has commenced, with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) acquiring 835 square meters of land in the first phase.

This acquisition was made possible after the state government allocated ₹140 crore for the project, allowing the municipal body to proceed with compensating landowners.
