Zika Virus in Pune: 15-year-old boy from Bhusari Colony Tests Positive

The new case of Zika infection include an 18-year-old woman from Pashan who is 28 weeks pregnant and was experiencing joint pain, headache.

Pune: The city continues to report new cases of Zika virus daily, with three more patients confirmed on Tuesday. Among the new cases are two pregnant women from the Pashan area and a 15-year-old boy from Bhusari Colony. This brings the total number of Zika cases to 16.

However, the official count remains at 15, as the municipal corporation did not validate the positive test result from a private lab for a woman from Mundhwa.

The new cases include an 18-year-old woman from Pashan who is 28 weeks pregnant and was experiencing joint pain and headaches. The second case is a 19-year-old woman, 23 weeks pregnant, who had a sore throat.

Two days ago, another pregnant woman from Pashan tested positive for Zika. Subsequently, blood samples of 38 pregnant women from the same area were sent to NIV for testing, with two more testing positive.

Additionally, a 15-year-old boy from Bhusari Colony in Kothrud, who only exhibited a rash, also tested positive after his sample was sent to NIV by a private lab, making him the youngest Zika patient so far.

So far, Zika cases have been identified in the following areas: Erandwane (5), Mundhwa (2), Dahanukar Colony (2), Pashan (3), Ambegaon Budruk (1), Kharadi (1), and Kals (1). Most patients exhibited symptoms such as fever, rash, body aches, headaches, and joint pain, according to Dr. Rajesh Dighe, Assistant Health Officer of the Municipal Corporation's Health Department.
