PUNE: As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), India till August 25 reported one per cent excess rainfall. Maharashtra has reported 22 per cent excess rainfall between June 1 to August 25 this year. However, parts of Maharashtra like Marathwada are at 27 per cent rainfall deficiency followed by Vidarbha at 4 per cent rainfall deficiency.
With unprecedented rainfall in central Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa, these regions are in 57 per cent and 36 per cent excess rainfall respectively.
Till August 25, Pune district reported 117 per cent excess rainfall. Districts like Ahmednagar have also reported 15 per cent excess rainfall. Kolhapur and Sangli, where floods affected normal lives, have reported 61 per cent excess rainfall and 42 per cent excess rainfall respectively.
However, in central Maharashtra itself, Solapur is still at 48 per cent rainfall deficiency.
In Konkan and Goa, all districts have reported excess rainfall.
In Marathwada, the condition is still grim. Aurangabad is at 15 per cent rainfall deficiency, followed by Nanded (17 per cent rainfall deficiency), Osmanabad (23 per cent) deficiency and Hingoli (28 per cent). Jalna has reported a 31 per cent deficiency, Latur has reported 32 per cent deficiency and Parbhani at 37 per cent rainfall deficiency. Beed district in Marathwada has reported 44 per cent rainfall so far. Vidarbha with four per cent rainfall deficiency has Washim and Yavatmal with deficient rainfall.
ACROSS THE COUNTRY
Various parts of India have reported variant rainfall. Central India region has reported 12 per cent excess rainfall followed by southern peninsula at seven per cent excess rainfall. Northwest region has reported five per cent deficiency rainfall between June 1 and August 25. The East and the Northeastern region has reported 16 per cent deficient rainfall during this time.
As per the IMD, the Southwest Monsoon has been active over Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh and coastal Karnataka. It has been subdued over Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, west Rajasthan, Gujarat State and Marathwada.
