Pune: It's 2020 and one can expect unexpected things this year. In what came as a surprise on Friday was Puneities and Mumbaikars witnessed a short spell of rains!

Yes, you read it right. Its December and still parts of Pune and Mumbai witnessed showers on Friday morning.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that fairly widespread to widespread rain or thundershowers may mark its impact to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and isolated rain or thundershowers to Tamil Nadu, South Madhya Pradesh and connecting Maharashtra from December 15.

Surprised by rains in the last month of the year, people in the cities took to social media to share their thoughts and photographs.

Under the influence of multiple weather system acting in tandem, ill-timed rains are likely over Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra (Konkan). This wet spell will be mostly light and moderate and will mark its presence in surrounding areas.

According to the IMD, this could on the one hand signal the likely arrival of an easterly wave across the Bay of Bengal and a restoration of the North-East monsoon over the South Peninsula and on the other, interactive rain and associated weather as the easterlies run into north-westerly flows associated with western disturbances.

IMD also predicted that light rain or showers may be expected over multiple districts around the country. Mumbai might see a cloudy sky with light rain on Friday before extending to Pune, Nasik and Nagpur.

Time to keep your umbrella ready!
