ATM Card cloning racket busted: 350 fake cards seized by Pune police

The Pune police have seized 359 duplicate cards of various banks which includes 13 ATM skimmers

Pune: Two men from Nashik were remanded to police custody till December 14 after they were found with over 350 cloned ATM cards.

The Pune police identfied the duo as Mohammad Akhil Adil Bhorniya and Mohammad Faizal Farukh Chatriwala of Dongri, Mumbai.

The police have seized 359 duplicate cards of various banks which includes 13 ATM skimmers, 12 digital micro cameras, 2 walkie talkies, 50 data cables and other equipment.

The police were investigating two cases registered in Pune city - one at Lashkar police station and another at cyber police station.

THE HISTORY SHEETER

The police said after the crime, Chatriwala had fled to Dubai. He was a history sheeter in the crimes at various cities such as Mumbai, Thane, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat to name a few. Initial investigation has revealed that Mohammed Faizan returned to India last year and started cheating customers of different banks.

MODUS OPERANDI

The fraudsters targeted those ATMs where it was possible for them to set up skimmer devices.

Skimmer devices copied the data of cards inserted by the people for at the ATMs. Even they instaed micro-cameras which helped them to copy the pin numbers entered by the customers during the transaction at the ATM. After getting the ATM card’s info, the accused developed cloned cards and used it for withdrawing money.
