PUNE: After providing relief to the flood-affected people from Vidhate Vasti, Baner Aundh road and Bhimnagar, Balewadi, the Baner Balewadi Pashan Residents Association (BBPRA) is making groups of volunteers to clean the houses of the affected people and provide them with the daily necessity items. 

Sanjay Waghulde, a resident of Baner and member of BBPRA, said, “On Sunday, our team started rehabilitating people from Vidhate Vasti and Bhimnagar at Shri Mahatoba Tukaram Balwadkar Marathi Medium School, Baner. Now, there are around 750 flood-affected residents staying in the school. Concerned citizens and NGOs provided us with blankets, bedsheets, food packets, water bottles, clothes and all other necessary items.”

“After the water recedes from Vidhate Vasti and Bhimnagar, the team’s next step will be to clean the whole area and the houses of the residents and also provide them with all daily items including food grains, basic food items, utensils, clothes, toothbrush, toothpaste, water, etc,” Waghulde added.

Some of the residents visited their houses at Vidhate Vasti and Bhimnagar and saw that the water has still not receded. These people are now suffering from rashes and itching on their legs and hands.

Sahebrao Bhalerao, a resident of Bhimnagar, said, “The water is up to knee level now and there are mosquitoes and garbage all around the place. After returning to school from our houses, we got rashes on our hands and legs.”

Janabai Jogdanad and Varsha Kamble, other residents from the same area, said, “Everywhere there is slush and all furniture and food items are submerged in the water. Apart from that, we now have rashes all over our body after visiting our homes.” The residents also claimed that they did not receive any help from the civic body yet.

A member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Prashant Patil, said, “The residents after returning from their homes, they started complaining that there are mosquitoes, slush and garbage all over the place. We hope the civic body offers help to the affected people.”

A doctor from Baner Medical Association, Rajesh Deshpande, said, “The people who were suffering from cold, fever and cough were given proper treatment. Those suffering from itching and rashes were also given tablets and ointments on time.”
