PUNE: The Pune airport authority has installed two boarding pass scanning gates at the departure area, which helps in reducing the waiting queue to enter the security hold area, after the creation of an interconnection corridor to connect the security hold area one and two on the ground floor. 

According to an official of the Pune airport, “The facility has been placed after the creation of an interconnection corridor. The purpose of this scanning-cum-automatic gate is only to nab those who want to enter with a fake ticket. Apart from this, it will help in reducing the waiting time and long queues for passengers after getting a boarding pass.”

Currently, the airport sees around 200 arrivals and departures every day. 

The high commuter volume, the infrastructure for check-ins, waiting lounges and other facilities have been improved in the past few months and the authorities are looking forward to more changes for fliers.

Recently, the interconnection corridor was created to connect Security Hold area 1 and 2 on the ground floor. 

The conveyor system has been reshaped to make this connection. This will enhance passenger facilitation and now, all 8 boarding gates can be approached from both security hold areas.

“The main advantage of these gates is that they will reduce the workload on Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, who have to check the boarding passes of all passengers. There is a scanning device right next to each gate. Once a passenger scans the barcode on his boarding pass, the gates turn green and open automatically,” said Ajay Kumar, Director of Pune airport.
