Pune: A young business analyst working in a company at Baner has been duped of Rs 54,000 by unidentified suspects through fraudulent online transactions on the pretext of providing girls for dating, chatting and meeting. Hinjawadi police have traced the suspects' location to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

A complaint has been filed in this regard by Arjun Dattatray Kharat (29), a resident of Anshul Eva society in Siddharth Nagar at Bavdhan. He works as a business analyst in a company at Baner. According to his complaint, the incident took place between January 21 to 23. The FIR has been registered on January 25 at about 8.30 pm.

Based on Arjun's complaint, Hinjawadi police have booked the unidentified suspects under section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code.

Investigating officer Police Sub-Inspector Ajit Kakade said, "The complainant had received a message from certain mobile numbers. He had responded to these messages after which Arjun was asked to pay some amount and register himself. Then he was sent photos of some girls. The complainant was asked to select one of the girl."

"Later, the suspects asked him to furnish his medical fitness documents and a COVID19 negative report too. When Arjun told them that he doesn't have such report, he was asked to pay another Rs 18 thousand to 'manage' the document. The suspects then lured Arjun to send another Rs 10 thousand to receive address of the girl. A total of Rs 54 thousand was sent to the suspects account through online payment app 'PhonePe' by the suspect," PSI Kakade informed.

A team of Hinjawadi police has landed in Delhi and is on the trail of the suspects, PSI Kakade added.
