COVID-19 cases spike in Pune: Warning of a second wave?

From February 9 to 14, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has seen a definite uptick in the number new cases.

Amid rising number of coronavirus cases in the last two weeks, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday warned people that the government will reimpose a lockdown if people disobey COVID-19 protocols. Maharashtra is witnessing an increasing number of new coronavirus cases, which has prompted the state government to ban public processions, meeting, and mass gathering

From February 9 to 14, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), which was once the epicentre of coronavirus cases in 2020, has seen a definite uptick in the number of new cases. The PMC has been reporting more than 200 new cases every day since February 9.

The PMC had reported zero death due to coronavirus infection for the first time on February 6. However, the following week, 25 deaths have taken place. The Positivity rate has risen to 10.09 percent from 5.56 percent, with the active case count rising to 1,661 from 1,383.

Bibvewadi, Sinhagad road, and Warje are reporting the maximum number of cases in Pune.

Pune has reported a total number of 195,496 out of which 188,975 since the first registered case of Covid-19 on March 9 last year. 4802 people have succumbed to the viral infection. The overall positivity rate is 18.19 percent and the mortality rate is at 2.46 percent.
